This was unlike any book I have ever read. It was so raw and real, scarily so. Anxiety and depression can be so debilitating and this is really shown through Gilda’s character. I need to read the rest of Emily’s books asap.

Is the funny actually in the room with us? I didn‘t spot it anywhere.

The Introduction in this book calls it „darkly funny“, „delightfully awkward“ and „pitch-perfect observations about the human condition“. I disagree with all of that.

I never understood what was going on with Gilda‘s brain and her thought processes and found the book relentlessly depressing and anxiety-inducing.

The first few pages of the book are not representative for the rest of the book.

I would only recommend this book to people who want to read about someone who is deeply depressed, anxiety-ridden, in constant panic attacks and who thinks about killing themselves
on nearly every page
.

I do not recommend this to anyone who is in a mental health crisis or who struggles with their mental health in general.

The only reason I‘m not giving this book one star is because the first few pages weren‘t bad and I was moved a bit during the last few pages.

Impressively accurately like spending a load of time inside the head of someone who is spiralling...but that's not necessarily my idea of a great read? Too real to be funny

I liked some of this but it felt like this is a rework of her other MC from the next book (which I read first). She feels like a young writer, but I appreciate the queer representation and obviously liked it enough to read two books by her. I won't be reading any more from her tho simply based on how much emetophobica-triggering stuff she adds into her books.
