Gideon and Gwyneth started as enemies to lovers in the first book. I wasn't happy that the lovers part was so soon, but I let it slide. However, I have no idea what the author meant to do here. Make them enemies again? Hardly. Make them full time lovers probably seemed for the author too soon so she just made me hate Gideon and this ship instead. This was just a big mess and Gideon was a horrible person here.

The plot is really interesting, the MC is driving me crazy. This book does that thing where everyone thinks that the MC is incapable, out of their depth, dumb, etc, but instead of making the MC someone that I want to root for, there are definitely time when I begrudgingly feel like they are right. I'm going to finish the series because I want to know how it ends and maybe all these things are resolved, but Im really dragging myself through it. Thank heavens for audio books. Also: insta-love 🤢🤮 between a 19 yo boy and a 16 yo girl...

This book would have a MUCH higher rating from me if the romance plot didn’t exist—or at least wasn’t so insta-love. I find that tiresome, grating, and unfortunate, as it causes unrealistic expectations for teens (the target audience of this series).

The time travel plot and overall magic system are great. I really like it overall and will start the third book only because I’m anxious to figure out the mystery.
