Okay, first let me get my rant out of the way. What is with Harry and his constant whining, moaning and whimpering, seriously. From the beginning of this book all he did was moan that people weren't telling him anything, complain that he had to stay at privet Drive (where, to anyone with half a brain, it is obvious he is safest) and whine that nobody believes anything he says. Then when he does get to leave and go and stay with Sirius and his friends he has a huge moping go at them and continues to do so for the next two thirds of the book. Personally if I was one of his friends I would have shaken him into silence by now. And when he finally gets his own way and gets to go and battle the bad guys he complains that people want to help him (despite spending ages moaning that nobody is helping him, no pleasing some peole, honestly). Right, rant over, moving on.

I actually enjoyed a fair bit of this book once I got past or could ignore most of what Harry was saying/doing. Hermoine is starting to grow on me and although she still had a few moments where I wanted to throttle her, she has developed well as a character and her sassy-ness really comes to the fore during this book. Ron is his same amusing, slightly unconfident self but he does brighten up most of the scenes he's in, particularly at the end when he goes a bit cuckoo during the battle scenes. The end was well written, fast paced and engaging and I am loving Neville, he's has moved on from being the quiet boy in the background you pity to being the confident (although still slightly clumsy) wizard you knew he could be. Overall this is my favourite of the series so far (although to be honest that is not saying quite as much as it seems) but I'm still let done by the weakness of Harry's character, whether deliberate or otherwise.

this one was very good solid all around. flushed our characters really well. nevill luna ginny all actual real people. the characters make good decisions that fit with their characters. this one did a really good job of making the school feel like school. going to classes. they also did a good job making the spells used far more varied and you can see them learn spells and have to practice and then use them in combat. it’s not all just expects patronum stupify and expelliwrmus. more nuanced and interesting spells. umbridge relationship to school and stuff was better than movie. just more depth all around. though the ending part was extremely chaotic and hard to follow at times with all the rooms and doors and people. but i liked this one.

The books seem to be getting better and better. Although they are a bit of slow pace in the first half, the second half was definitely face paced. I enjoyed being at Hogwarts again, but did not enjoy who was at Hogwarts this time around (D.U.). All in all, I am still very satisfied with the series.
