This is a rare book that handles moving in a deeply helpful way. The main character makes a big move, and it is HARD on her, but given a significant amount of time she realizes that while where she was WAS a good place with good aspects and good memories, where she is now is also a good place with good aspects and good times. There is no magical point where things become easy and she doesn't miss her old home, but she finds a new place for herself in her new home.

The characters are lovely and multi dimensional and I genuinely care about each of them. I appreciate how there is no "bad guy," just a lot of complex people interacting in ways that are sometimes good and sometimes hurtful and trying to do their best.

Highly recommend, especially if you have an upcoming move your kids aren't excited for or have been through a move that was hard on your kids.

Content warning: animals are harmed in this book, including being hunted and processed. It is not gratuitous or unnecessary or cruel, but it does happen.
