When I first picked up this book, I read the description and thought it sounded interesting. I bought it, and here I am, like a month later because I kept putting it off, trying to shake off the ghost of this book.
When I first read the very beginning sentence, I didn't think it would go down that road. I didn't think I would care so deeply for Sid and Corey. Or that it would engross me, make me whisper to Sid as if she could hear me. This book is one I'd recommend to anyone who's willing to read it. Especially, and most importantly, for rape victims. This is a book that you won't forget in a hurry, and you won't want to.

Or that it would engross me, make me whisper to Sid as if she could hear me. This book is one I'd recommend to anyone who's willing to read it. Especially, and most importantly, for rape victims. i was really hoping to enjoy this because of how careful i was about the books i bought for my birthday. It feels too 2000's teen-like writing and immature considering th heavy topic of the story. I saw thee author and automatically understood why the writing was so cheesy. It's a middle aged women writing what she thinks a 16 year old sounds like.
the whole "living stoner" nickname is so bad i cringe each time sid calls corey that. clayton describes corey as if he's doing hard drugs when he's a stoner like the majority of every other high schooler.
i may be in a severe reading slump but it might just be the shitty books i've been reading.

I love this book--I love how Clayton takes a difficult topic, one that has been handled in YA often, and breathes such sincere pain, consequences, healing, love, and bravery into it. Sid changes a lot as she deals with the ramifications of a night she can't remember but can't forget. She finds love and her own courage because of the people around her. A great, heart-felt read!

Ez a könyv minimum 5 csillagot érdemelne, ha csak a romantikus szálat veszem figyelembe. Sid és Corey kapcsolatának felépítése az élő példa arra, hogy igenis léteznek még realista írók, akik nem Hollywood ködén át látják a világot, és sutba dobják az insta-love fogalmát minden egyes hozzákapcsolódó elemével együtt.
Sajnos azonban a What Happens Next elsősorban nem egy romantikus könyv, és habár szeretem a komolyabb témákat, és Colleen Clayton nagyon jó regény írt, mégis csak 4 csillagot adtam neki.
Ennek pedig egyetlen indoka van, mégpedig pont a romantikus szál, és az, hogy úgy éreztem, elkanyarodtunk a fő témától.
Adott ugye az alapszitu, hogy Cassidyt megerőszakolja egy fiú a sítáborban. Ezután következik a szokásos rész, amikor Sid elidegenedik a barátaitól, nem találja a helyét, és a suli egyik problémásabb tagjával kezd barátkozni. Mire azonban észbe kapunk, már nem is a nemi erőszak feldolgozásáról van szó, hanem arról, hogy Sid mennyit fogyott, és hogy milyen étkezési zavarokkal küzd.
Na most mondhatjátok, hogy hülye vagyok, mert a kettő összefügg (egyébként erre én is rájöttem, még mielőtt valaki félreértene), épp csak így már felületessé vált a két téma. Egyrészt mert a két eseményt nem igazán kötötte össze az írónő, másrészt mert olvastam Laurie Halse Anderson Jégviráglányait és Daisy Whitney The Mockingbirdsét. A What Happens Next pedig nem veheti fel a versenyt ezzel a két másik regénnyel, akármennyire is drukkoltam neki.
Úgyhogy ezért kap csak négy csillagot, ennek ellenére tényleg nagyon tetszett, imádtam Sid és Corey jeleneteit.
