And what’s a pity that is: a dash of curiosity is all it takes to stumble upon treasures we never expected. That said, we rarely seek that which we do not expect to find.

It's a good book, maybe deserving three stars, but at the moment I only feel like two is the fairest, it hasn't left me a deep impression after finishing it.
I did enjoy Maria's character, and some of (young) Raif, but I felt like their relationship was too philosophical to be believable, with constant mood swings from Maria's side that seemed, to me, a bit artificial. Nonetheless, I did like their way of thinking, especially Maria's, since I felt like I shared most of her thoughts.
So, characters were good, only flaw is the way they are presented and represented throughout the book. Translation, I think, was another problem, the prose didn't seem to flow as smoothly as some other people say.
Besides, the story is nothing original, even for its time, so while it is entertaining, without (in my opinion) good characterization it feels a bit lacking.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, the length is something that plays in its favour since there's no feeling of dragging. But, it's not something that has deeply connected with me, so two stars for the moment.

I loved the writing but I wasn't fully captivated by the story. It's quite sad but beautiful at the same time.

I was wanting to read a romance again, and having been disappointed by BookTok one too many times I decided to give this book a chance.
Madonna in a Fur Coat is what happens when a talented author gives into every inclination towards melancholy - and somehow it still isn’t too much.
A quick, beautiful read for the hopeless romantics out there.
