This was weird. And not in a good way. I feel like the moments where it delivers something with meaning are few and far between and often the journey there can be too convoluted. I like the concept of the book, a philosophical approach to feminism and women in art, but countless times I got lost in Chris' ramblings about paintings, or schizophrenia, or whatever it would be. If anything, I liked how the author grapples with obsession and the way in which we handle it as human beings, but a lot of it can come off as a bit creepy, especially considering this actually happened. I was not a fan of this book in the slightest, a chore to get through, but at least not a very long one.

i don't really know if i get to have an opinion about this book, as a dude. the reconceiving-female-self stuff i got into, the weirdo art world jibjab i did not. i would probably not describe this as a beach read but then again there are all kinds of beaches in this world.

Hard to put into words, odd, personal and very compelling and uniquely structured. Some criticise it for meandering into art theory but the thing is that actually broadens the whole scope of the thing into something far more tangible.. somehow without them I don't think it would be half as real. I can get why some readers may find that they cause it to drag a little though, but not me.

So much has bern written about this book and I have nothing new to add. It's like nothing else and I can see Kraus's influence in so many novels (Ben Lerner must worship at her feet) and essay collections (The Argonauts). Kraus is a force and I love what she's done here.

Started off quite funny but it's so boring after 80 I couldn't go on with it.
