I can't rate this book. Sometimes it was 5 stars for me and sometimes it was 2. Safe to say it was a real roller coaster ride (which both our MC would love tbf). After the Enemies to Lovers of Written in the Star, Bellefleur goes for another hot trope: Best Friend’s Brother. Darcy’s bf Annie flies in for a surprise visit only to be landed with Darcy’s younger brother Brendan as her tour guide. Dating-app founder Brendan is evangelical about red-rose romance – and has been in love with Annie since he was a kid. The prospect of him trying to convince jaded Annie about The Power of Love™ through a series of rom-com style dates had me bouncing in my seat. Obviously, nothing would go to plan (comedy!) and slowly he’d learn that romance is not the same script for everyone (swoon!) In retrospect, perhaps I got overly invested in how I wanted the scenario to play out. I definitely disagreed with the author's choice to cut away during two big moments with the potential to show Brendan's personal growth. His best man speech was a missed opportunity; his team meeting at the dating app to explain his big new project was another. I finished the book still having very little clue what his flashbulb, Annie-inspired moment even was. There was also the chance for the obligatory Black Moment to be something quite different to the usual festival of mutual depression, with Brendan keeping his head down and gently convincing Annie that he was in it for the long haul (maybe a suculent fridge magnet arrives each day or something). Also, dammit, if you’re going to have a bf’s little bro be the love interest, I’m gonna need him to be more than two measly years younger. Still, I’m always here for the queer MF romance and there's no denying that these two are super cute together.

Five stars. I can’t believe I almost skipped this book. It would have been a true crime. It was everything I love in romance books and more. And yes I cried. But comme onn that ending??

It was charming and sweet but ultimately not very memorable. Annie didn't seem to have much personality - I was more invested in Brendon's POV. I liked seeing Darcy and Elle from Written in the Stars again.
