Disappointing. Lexie’s four year old daughter Bella inexplicably vanishes from the local playgroup and there’s no trace of her. The initial stages of this were so drawn out with nothing much developing except Lexie’s histrionics. Her character was totally over the top even taking into account an earlier tragedy which also took ages to be revealed. I didn’t find any of the other characters any less grating. Each of the other playgroup mums had issues/flaws/secrets which supposedly thickened the plot. Then there was the creepy school teacher and Bella’s father who all became suspects. There were simply too many red herrings. But despite all this, the whole story seemed paper thin to me.

Six Minutes is my second book I’ve read by Australian author, Petronella McGovern and I’ll certainly be keeping my eye out for more. The story is based on every parent’s worst nightmare; three year old Bella goes missing from playgroup, seemingly without a trace, will she be found? Set in a small country town near Canberra, Australia the story is told from five different POV’s in both the past and present, with many secrets and misunderstandings! I could not predict how this story was going to pan out until it was revealed. Six Minutes was an enjoyable, easy read which held my attention although I felt the ending was wrapped up a little too quickly. Be kind to others, don’t judge, you never know what someone has or is going through!

The pace was good and this was an easy read to get absorbed into. I found the storyline to be a bit neat and wholesome overall, but I think this would appeal to many other readers.

This was fantastic, it had me on the edge of my seat! Right from the start you are thrown into the mystery of Bella's disappearance. And from there I felt like I was being pushed and pulled in every direction. I had SO many theories about what happened, and I am so glad with the ending of the book!

The book is told from multiple character's perspectives, I love books like this and it was done so perfectly. Written in this way, we were drip fed clues and sucked in to each person's thoughts on where Bella is. I didn't guess it until it was basically revealed. There were other little things going on too, secrets being kept which made many people seem guilty.

As a mum of a 2.5 year old, I connected with each of the Playgroup mums. I felt like I could've been one of them, and how I would deal with the situation. So awful to think about!

Make sure you have plenty of time on your hands to read this because you won't want to put it down. Unfortunately, it took me a little longer because there's not much time to sit and read with a toddler. But every time I picked it up I was right back into the story and hoping Bella was OK and would come home safe.

I will definitely be reading anything Petronella McGovern releases.

Die Protagonistin klingt wie eine saudumme Person. Ich halte es keinen weiteren Satz mit ihr aus. DNF 3%

3.5 stars rounded up.

Lexie reluctantly leaves her 3yo daughter, Bella, at playgroup for six minutes while she runs to the shops for biscuits. When she gets back, Bella is gone. It soon becomes clear that Lexie, her husband and the other members of her playgroup all have their secrets.

The book is a fast paced, easy read, which kept me riveted. Some of the storyline is a little far fetched but I still enjoyed it.

Great book. I loved how it was written and that you just wanted to keep reading to find out what happened to Bella. A few twists that made you keep thinking. Has some sad themes but that’s just the nature of the book. It is fiction that touches on hard subjects but  it was written well. I gave it 4 because there were a few things that could  maybe been tied up a bit better but overall it was good.
