I can't believe how funny this was. It can be read from so many different angles and the prose was really excellent. It's just such a unique and funny story. Really makes me want to read Moby Dick now (if it wasn't so long)

Me ha dado vibes del writing de Sunless Sea: en el estilo de prosa, en el ambiente y en lo inglés de algunos detalles.

*To be free, that is the dream. But free of what exactly? Free to do what? Bartleby has an answer, it may not be the answer, only one of many. He achieves it by being himself, to do as he prefers if you will. Is he right; is he sane; can he be solely responsible for his actions; ultimately, does it matter? Questions, questions and more questions. This will stay with me for a long time as I share in Bartleby's view of life, the only difference is one of degree.
The genius of it is that Melville hints, only hints, at Bartleby becoming as he is as a response to his past exposure to human frailty, possibly viewed through the eyes of a misanthrope but probably with a heart full of pity. My only hope is that I never resolve this little mystery.

Un clásico de referencia, de corte existencialista y prekafkiano, adelantándose a su época en la mezcla de absurdo y trascendencia.
