Enjoyable mystery. Focus is more on small town and well-known characters than the actual murders.

You know, these books are so funny. The lull you in with a cozy, mostly ordered world, where things always work out okay, actually more than okay, for our hero and his feline compatriots, but really horrible things happen. Two murders in this book; the first, a murder and arson combo so the poor, unfortunate soul does not leave much behind. Never you mind that it's a salt-of-the earth nonagenarian farmer who takes in stray animals. She must die a horrible death. Then, another character, who is a victim of domestic abuse, ends up brutally murdered, and her body hidden for about 24 hours, and then crashed in a car in an attempt to hide the crime. Yet, this is a cozy. Boggles the mind a bit, but I am as guilty as the rest. I read these an enjoyable break in between more complex texts, what does that say about me?

I recently found out on my read lists, that I had missed just this 1 in the series, so it was fun to go back to the town and characters. Likable characters with a mystery that you really forgets exists in the novel, since it barely revolves around said mystery. :) Just like all the others lol.

I thought the characters were all rather abrupt, and the main character was a little too "conveniently" in the center of everyone's life. It is advertised as a mystery, but I think this is more a story about small town life.

Book #59 read in 2010
I really think these need not be classified as mystery novels anymore. Those at the beginning of the series seems to have more suspense/mystery to them. This book was more a narrative on life in Moose County with a mystery thrown in as an afterthought. It was okay.
