Each chapter was the exact same but with a different exposition and alternating background elements i.e. the circumstances and minor events etc. Herbert West is an interesting character but what the movie does best is explore his character and personality in a broader way. The movie also seemed to effectively adapt the anthological short stories into one whole narrative which suits it better.

I enjoyed the book and it was captivating. Nothing to complain about in the writing style, characters or plot. I am going to read more works by the same author (this was my first by Lovecraft).

I mostly read sci-fi and thrillers, and this was the scariest book I've read in a long time. I really don't know why, but it was!

I wanted to like this story more, but I can't understand why the complete plot of the novella was retold at the start of every chapter! If it had not have had that rehashing it would have gotten a 4* as it does have some iconic lovecraftian themes and characters.

Also goes without saying with Lovecraft but content warning for racist themes which aren't enjoyable to read (third chapter).

I really enjoyed this short read. I was gripped from the start, similar to The Events at Poroth Farm by T.E.D Klein, where the Narrator is telling you what the current situation is, and then goes on to tell you the whole story.

Overall, a good story that creeped me out in places.

4*
