I really enjoyed this tome. It’s epic in every sense of the word. The writing is vivid, detailed, and beautiful. The story is multilayered, multifaceted, and intoxicating. The characters (major and minor) are interesting, believable, and wonderfully dynamic. The philosophies behind the zombie plague may wax poetic at times, but the ideas themselves are diverse and intriguing. And the zombies themselves...just wow. So many interesting moments and ideas I’ve never really seen before in a zombie story

I can certainly understand the qualms others have with the book, but for me those all wash away when I’m reading it. I was captivated and eagerly eating every word. It’s the world-altering apocalyptic vision of World War Z mixed with the gorgeous writing and character-building of All the Light We Cannot See. You can really tell the love and work author @kraus_author put into it. It’s 4.5/5 ⭐️ from me!!

A true zombie classic, this will long have a place on my horror book shelf. Thrilling, cringe-worthy and oh so gory.

Absolutely loved it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I am fully in my zombie era right now and this book has solidified that zombies are one of the best horror creatures/monsters. I’ve actually never seen a Romero film but I am already set to have a marathon with my cousin next month. This book was so beautiful and scary and emotional. I loved it so much and I think Kraus was the perfect pick to help finish this novel. (If you haven’t read Whalefall, what are you doing?!? 🐋)

If you’re a person, I think you should read this book - even if you don’t care for horror. This goes beyond “just zombies”. It does get a bit gross, but I believe in you - you can handle it.

The entirety of the first like 500 pages were AMAZING. When we skipped ten years it got really philosophical and deep, so that bogged it down as a horror novel. I feel like it had a good message, but it was given in a super clunky way. But overall, really good!

It felt like a George A Romero zombie movie. I think only a percentage of you will understand what I mean when I say this. He has a flavor that is different from other directors. If you're here for the zombie story you might not love it as much as I did, though I do not doubt you'll be entertained. If you're here specifically for Romero, though, you're in for quite the treat.
