Pace wise this feels mixed between slow and medium with some faster paced scenes. The start is well done as we're introduced to the characters and the setting.

I must admit this type of book isn't really my thing, I didn't read the synopsis so went in blind. The story heavily features intense torture scenes, which even though weren't too hard to stomach it was a big part of the plot with the rest of the story interwoven around it. If the focus was more on the story rather than the torture maybe I would've liked it more. The 3 stars aren't negative towards the book itself just that it wasn't for me.

On a more positive note I really like the mix in points of view throughout the books. I really enjoyed seeing the different perspectives. Furthermore, I'm glad that more characters were introduced rather than the focus on just the first 3 as it wouldn't have been as interesting as it was without the other characters, the twists with these additions throughout did make things unpredictable in an intriguing way.
