Loved the book even if it took me a while to get into to it but after a while I just sat down and read it and I'm glad that I spent hours over a couple days reading the book because it always was really enjoyable to sit down and read.

Really did a great job at adding some depth to the characterizations and story from the movie.

Here's a funny story back in 2013 I had a brief experience playing the first game in this franchise, it didn't go down well per se. And yes Ubisoft has been milking this particular for a while I mean the premise is cool and has so much potential, did I mention in the first game you have to complete a very annoying tutorial before being able to play the damn game puts players off actually being stuck in a area of white and not being able to continue if you get stuck pretty awful if I do say so myself.

Anyway that aside this book was pretty good and I am curious to watch the movie, who knows might be good, the Ratchet and Clank movie was brilliant who's to say Assassin's Creed wont be? And I'll be giving it a chase like I do with all video game adaptations.

A summery for Assassin's Creed: The Official Tie-In:

We work in the dark to serve the light. We are assassins.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

3.5 stars, rounded up

I have not seen the movie that this book is based on, so I went into the story completely blind. It was interesting, but I didn’t think the regressions from the other Assassins at the end added much to the plot.

I enjoyed the movie but felt that it was too short for the audience who have no prerequisites of the Assassin’s Creed games and concept to understand. A lot of the emotions and cognitive aspects of Callum Lynch’s experience with the Animus were not captured in the movie but was clearly explained in the book. I wished that the movie had included all of those scenes from the book in the movie.

That being said, I obviously think that the book is better than the movie. I don’t really have any problems with the book. I like the writing style and the story. I do wish that Ubisoft would continue with this book series as the book, like the movie, is definitely set up for a sequel. Even if Ubisoft doesn’t want to make a movie sequel, I would still like a sequel in book form. I want to know what happened to the characters and I definitely need to know who that one Assassin was and how her story plays out.

I gave this book 4.5 stars and rounded it off to 5 stars for Goodreads.

It is a typical novelization. It seems rushed and it is written with a word-choice that makes it seem like it wants to look smart but really it is just a retelling of the movie. One thing that did annoy me is that it included references to the games and everything, many things the movie shouldn't have left out. Perhaps the latter is more a complaint towards the movie than it is towards the novelization.

This was SO much better than I was expecting! There was more depth to the story than just a simple retelling of the film and the side characters who we see but barely meet in the film - Moussa, Emir, Lin, Nathan - are introduced and developed.
Perhaps the best part was how it didn't feel like a novel based on a film; Christie Golden is a talented writer and it was a pleasure to read.

This book kind of suffered from the same thing a lot of Assassin's Creed stuff does ime, that the future stuff with the Animus is often the least interesting part of it. But in a movie format - and therefore this book - where you only have a couple of hours, for it to make sense you wind up having a way higher percentage of future than you do in the games. The book was fine, and competent, but didn't particularly excite me at all. It did, however, get me out of a bit of a reading slump I was in, it was a pretty easy read that I absolutely blasted through, so that was cool.
