3. Kind of unnecessary since the last book wrapped things up nicely. I still enjoyed the search for Klaus and seeing Damon and Stefan work together but could have done without Elena returning.

Really, this series is just a fun, light read. It isn't anything new or original. It only digs below the surface just enough to keep things interesting and supplies us plenty of forgettable, secondary characters to die or be tortured so our main favorites don't have to. That's fine, I'll take it.

This is a reread for me. The last time I read the series was more than 10 years ago. This is The Vampire Diaries series. The original 4 books before the hype for vampires and witches. The tv show is nothing like the books. Sure the first three books is all about Stefen and Damon Salvatore vampire brothers and their love for the Homecoming Queen, Elena Gilbert.

Dark Reunion is the 4th (and I felt the final book) of this series. Smith didn't write anything more about the Salvatore brothers and Elena and her friends again until 2009 - which I think is when the tv show started. After rereading this now, I still find this book to be the best one in the true 4 book series. It might be a bit outdated. But I still enjoyed reading this book than say... Twilight. At least Dark Reunion had more of a suspenseful plot and more character development. It's still very much a teen young adult book.

I think if one wanted to read a Vampire Diaries book, then Dark Reunion would be a good one. Even though it's the fourth book, it wasn't confusing to read. There is also a lot of recap explanations of the previous 3 books.
