2.5 stars. Very atmospheric and lovely writing, but the story drags on a bit too long. Suffers from a lack of resolution as well.

Pretty good book, though it got rather tedious in the last 50 pages or so.

A good read. Sarah Waters builds the atmosphere of Hundreds, a decaying country house in the 1940s, well.  The characters are well drawn and although slow-paced there is enough tension to keep the reader going.

However, I didn’t quite find that this book and gave the same tension as Fingersmith or Tripping the Velvet, and the ending had a subtle hint of a twist rather than any major revelations.
