Really tough read, but once I got into it there was a nice almost rhythm to it.
It felt like almost nothing happened for the first half of the book but second half & last act were good.
I think the writing style is really wordy(?), which I’m not used to but I do think I liked it.

Not your modern over-hyped ghost story. Slow-moving, and to be honest, many readers will find the payoff at the end unworthy of the effort. Still, well-written, evocative and subtly complex, it suited me okay for a bedside book.

A haunted house book? The Little Strangers plays with the notion of is it poltergeists, mental illness, or the change of era. It does all unremarkably but is written fine and in an interesting time period. The main character becomes unlikable in the second half of the book while the ones he interacts with mostly are the more fascinating and likable characters.
Over all an average story that just ends. The mystery is never very engaging. Perhaps because the main character won’t engage with it in an interesting way.
