As I was finishing reading this, I thought I'd give it 3.5 stars, but now I'm somewhere between that and 3. It's not that it was bad, it still has the same neat plot structure and charming(?) quirks as the first, but this time around it was a little less enticing.
I still enjoyed the world building and setting, but with less mystery and urgency as the first I didn't feel the thrill/tension.
Spoiler I guess just inherently knowing that all the main characters will make it out because of all the fake-out deaths ruins the anticipation. Plot armor :(
There are still many cool ideas implemented with the goon squad and wormhole. I enjoy seeing what the authors come up with because sometimes everything just clicks so well.
I really liked Hanna as a character, and how the female leads have been the heart of the books so far. The only thing that turns me off about Hanna is having her be veryyyyy flirty while still having a bf, to the point where I feel bad for her bf (which I know I'm not supposed to)... Speaking of romance, I didn't really root for the main couple and found Nik's backstory unnecessary. I guess I'm just not a mafia girl at heart.
Overall there were a lot of aspects similar to Illuminae and I enjoyed getting to see another place in this world!

Fuuuuuuck, that's how it ended???
Not much of a review, but I will say it wasn't quite as good as Illuminae (to me, at least). Or it was just as good, but they were pulling the same punches as in book 1 which made some things a bit predictable. Great follow through tho, and a brilliant read, just as Illuminae.

I absolutely love this series. I have read these books several times and am now going through the audio books. I have to say the audio books are just as amazing as the physical books. Just an awesome series!

PHENOMENAL.
If I could, I would give this book (And Illuminae) all the stars (in my sky and all the different skies). I still am unable to completely comprehend all the ways that this book tricked and fooled me.
The series is so unique as it has a way different set-up - log entries, comm transcripts, this one has awesome drawings from the amazing Marie Lu! I am in love with every single part of this book and I will wholeheartedly recommend it to each and every one of my book loving friends.
Going to return my library copy and buy my own, like right now.

When you have to kill the main character’s twice, just to hurt the readers that much more. Stop playing with my emotions😩

That was so much fun to read.

The writing got stronger and the stakes got higher.

Loved the new characters and the intensity of their situation.

And while I think the twists still hit me harder in the first book, the ones in here were still pretty successful.

As always, it takes a bit of time to establish the groundwork and build up the story, but the accumulating tension is just wonderfully overwhelming.

The ending of these books are such a tease.

I’m off to read the next one!
