81 years apart, two children are ripped from their mothers under different circumstances. Later they come together with core understanding. For only 280pg the depth of character and backstory makes for layers and depth.

Isabel allende é sempre uma experiência envolvente, impactante e sensível.
Nesse livro, ela aborda a questão dos refugiados e a política de fronteiras, trazendo diferentes histórias de crianças que foram separadas de suas família. A narrativa começa em Viena, com a violência do regime nazista, chegando até os dias de hoje, com a crise de refugiados na fronteira dos Estados Unidos, em 2019, até a pandemia.
Transcendendo tempo e espaço, vemos a história se repetir quando se trata de questões humanitárias.
Passado e presente se entrelaçam para contar o drama do desenraizamento, os traumas de infância que não desaparecem, a incerteza e a esperança de quem deixa a vida pra trás.
Nada como uma ficção bem escrita, e uma boa dose de memória histórica, algo muito característico da autora, para retratar os problemas da vida real e estimular reflexões de problemas que precisam de solução urgente.

Só não amei a estrutura do livro, que acabou prejudicando um envolvimento maior com os personagens.
