rating: very good ⭐⭐⭐⭐
personal enjoyment rating: exceptional ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

the plot twist was a bit obvious, but I still appreciated this story so much.
it was structured a bit differently than other shadowhunters novels which was a nice refreshing touch: it's a queer traveling adventure about trying to solve a mystery that also ties in the stuff already known about the universe and sets up its own story arc focused around Magnus' legacy

I enjoyed this book a lot :)

I'm not always a fan of Clare's work for some reason, but this one was a fun read. I haven't read all of this series, but I knew enough from reading the Mortal Instruments books to follow along. The action and characterization news fun and held my interest, and the cocky dialogue never disappointed.

📘The Gist 📘: All Alec and Magnus want is to have a romantic vacation in Europe. Those plans are threatened when Magnus is ordered to deal with a demon warshiping cult that claims he is their founder.

Loved getting to see Alec and Magnus' relationship grow!

Timing wise in the Shadowhunter world, this takes place following City of Heavenly Fire (the moral instruments) but before Lady Midnight (the dark artifacts).  Its not necessary to read the mortal instruments before reading this book but there are some references to what occurs in the mortal instruments that may be spoilers (nothing to detailed to give away all of what happened or too important that you would be confused reading this book).
