I don’t know how to rate or review something like this. The editor and translation was easy to read and understand.

One of the most masterful primers and explanations of the Buddha and the path. A great place to learn and return for anyone interested in the Buddha’s teaching.

Amazing! That is all I have to say. I didn't really have any expectations (or previous encounter with Easwarans work) so I was instantly swept away by his lyrical writing on the philosophy of Buddha and the Eight Fold Path. After an introduction by Easwaran, which contains a brief history of Buddha and his enlightenment, follows the Dhammapada. Before each verse prefaces a short text which explains in western context what the verse is about and how one can choose to think about it.

Being thoroughly ignorant on the topic of Buddhism and ancient Indian culture I never felt like I did not understand what was being explained or that it was somehow too "far fetched". It did however make me think and wonder. A lot.

As I continue to investigate Buddhism, I felt reading one of their important texts was a logical next step. This version includes a lot of introduction and commentary before each chapter. While I felt these did help some, often they felt excessive and I found myself wanting a more pure uninfluenced reading. No matter what version you read you'll definitely find lots of wisdom here.
