Went into this book with zero expectations and wow it was a goodie; neat little stand alone with options to continue as a series.

The magic system was unique to me as well as the building was done wonderfully.

The growth in the characters were also interesting and I felt I really got to know them and the changes by the end was feel good. The story was very character driven and done well.

The story as much as it was a general page turner did have a slow mid section where not much happens. It’s typical Sanderson story writing I think where things are getting set up, however I feel the pacing could have been better. The twists were also a little more predictable imo.

Book was pretty good. Only 3 stars because I’ve enjoyed Sanderson’s other works much more.
