I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed this book more or less if I'd read the rest of the series, but this book was just ok for me. The mystery was cool, although the very undermentioned side plot about the cult was really interesting and I wish it had been explored more. The main plot was fine, although it felt repetitive at times. I didn't mind the characters, and some of my lack of connection is probably due to not having read other books in the series.

I'm definitely curious about Krueger's experience with Indigenous folks - the majority of the characters in the book are Indigenous, and aspects of Indigenous cultures play a big part in the book. I know Krueger himself is not Indigenous, but I'm curious as to how his research was done, if he met with people in the communities he's writing about, etc. It seems that he put a lot of effort in, I just don't know enough about American Indigenous groups to know how accurate he was.

This book irritated me- I felt it needlessly eliminated a figure and did not address it well in terms of the depth of the reactions from other characters. Having said that, I love the series and will still read the rest of them, I'm just frustrated with this book!

Heaven's Keep was a good book. I would recommend reading this book. Usually, however, this series is exceptionally good. The book shakes up the series a bit and it makes me want to read the next one.

This is my ninth book in the Cork O'Conner series and I will certainly continue to devour them. There is a deep love within Krueger's heart for Minnesota and the native Ojibwe culture which radiates itself with beautiful prose upon the pages. I've become a distant family member during my time devouring the books with his wife Jo, daughters and his son Steven and all other fictional friends and relatives created by Krueger. He can paint landscapes in your mind and trigger all your emotions.

This one though tended to drag for the first 100 pages. I know that it needed to set the stage for the rest of the story but I feel it needed a little action injected into the front part of the tale. That is my only criticism of this one .

As always the tail end of the story is finely crafted and packed with enough punches to satisfy any suspense fanatic. I will give this 4 stars.
