A great meditation on the social and economic consequences of cryogenic revival technology. A very interesting theme, which would make for a great book even if it weren't a Miles novel. This being a Miles novel, the story is filled with his kind of knight-errandry. Seeing a wrong he wants to right, Miles picks the biggest lever he finds and actually attempts to move the world. If it will work, maybe a forthcoming novel will tell. But, oh, he tries.
Cryoburn reads as peak Miles-The-Auditor. If you, like me, are a fan of the series, you should take that to heart and steel yourself before finishing this book.

The first story in the whole series that I didn't enjoy entirely.

There is NO PLOT in this book. It's just a kind of relationship drama/love story that I'm kind of bored with because I know how it's going to end. I enjoyed knowing more about characters' backstories, but I like the way she did it in previous novels, where it's intertwined within an actual story. Nothing really happens, there is no antagonist, there is no obstacle to be overcome beside our main characters' decisions. There were conversations between characters that were realistic, but WAY too long for a book. I wanted this book to be over, which I hadn't felt for any of this series before. :(

I wouldn't say skippable, because there's a lot of great backstory on the characters you've grown to love, but it's a slog.

Definitely not one of my favorite Vorkosigan books. Not that it was bad, I just have high expectations by now. Excellent world-building and believable (and relevant/realistic!) politics. But the story was lacking; there was so much portentious detail, and only a tiny fraction of it ended up being used at all.

Sam accidentally spoiled me for the ending, so that didn't have as much of an emotional impact as it otherwise might have. :( I really hope this isn't the end of the series, because it's kind of a let-down.
