This book takes place in the late 1800s and is chock full of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. The imagery was beautiful and the characters were all extremely different and full of life. While the story does start off slow, stick through it - this murder mystery is worth it!!

I liked the plot, although a bit confusing at the start. The writing was terribly unoriginal. The mystery and romance elements were so full of tropes that it made the book predictable. The many references to Shakespeare made for tedious reading. That being said, the last third of the book was engaging and had me cheering for the female protagonists.

As mystery The English Wife wasn't really strong, and I would have preferred only one narrator and timeline instead of two, but Willig's prose was very nice to read and I liked the way she wrote character interactions (specially Janie and Burke's banter).

Loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. Reminded me of Kate Morton’s books.

I really liked this book! It kept me page turning the whole time. Great characters, twists and ending. I have read other books by Willie that just seemed silly, this was not one of them :-)
