If Jurassic Park, the film, is Alien. Then Michael Crichton's original source material would be Aliens. Brutal, fearless and an unrelenting disaster thriller where nothing goes right for our unfortunate protagonists. An intense, funny read if not a little messy at times.

Loved it, not much more I need to say really!
If you enjoy the movie you’ll almost certainly enjoy the book, it’s written with the same warmth, energy and excitement, although there are enough differences in plot (especially in the second half) to keep it interesting and engaging. Also really interesting to see how some of the characters were changed for the movie (most notably Lex) and which were exactly as described (Malcom, Grant, Sattler, and Hammond especially).
It was definitely a comfort read for me but that is by no means a bad thing. Jurassic Park does what my favourite kind of sci-fi does: it explores unique ideas without getting bogged down in plausibility or scientific details, instead focusing on the wonder, awe and joy that comes from imagining other worlds.

This was a surprise read for me. I didn’t even realize it was a book. But it’s so good!! The science for the most part holds up, the characters are compelling, the dinosaurs terrifying and I was rapt with attention the whole time.
It was a masterwork in suspense, and I never truly knew what was going to happen the whole time. The movie is NOTHING compared to this.
Do yourself a favour and give it a go.
