I normally don't like prequels. I mean we already know their characters and where they end up so whats the point? In this case seeing the start of the cat and mouse game that Dallas and Lex carried on for years before they finally surrendered to their love. This was a great read and I can't wait for more O'Kane for Life stories!

I was sent a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was such a refreshing read since it has been years since I first read Beyond Control and so it's been a long time since I read an entire book told from Dallas and Lex's perspectives. And I'm not going to lie, it was nice to finally be able to read the beginning to their story.
This book is set as a sort of flashback instead of a prequel. The entire thing is more or less Dallas remembering how they met and then the plot develops from there.
Was it the most exciting and surprising story? No, of course not. We know how it all ends thanks to the Beyond Shame and Beyond Control. And it's a short book, the epub is barely over 100 pages. This book just served to fill in a few details to help us as readers picture it all more easily.
All of that being said, I did have a little difficulty getting through the book because at this point I'm so used to Kit's writing style that I was expecting romance that wasn't going to be in this book because it would have gone against established facts that have already been written in this world. So while I knew those elements weren't going to be in the bulk of the book, I was still expecting them, which is more my problem than the story's.
Also, it was difficult for me to remember that this was a time before all of the couples from the Beyond series even knew each other for the most part, let alone had paired off and fallen in love, so it was a little weird to read about Jasper hooking up with girls other than Noelle, or Dallas having any sort of relationship with someone other than Lex etc.
All in all, this is a great read if you love the king and queen of sector 4 and I highly recommend it.

I loved this story from start to end. It is definitely a page turner and gives you some insight into the early days of the O'Kanes. It shows how Lex and Dallas initially met, Dallas finding his way to becoming the leader he is destined to become and Lex the strong...

I've needed this back story for so long, and it was so fricken satisfying!!!!
We finally get to see how Dallas and Lex met, we get to see the very beginning of Dallas's bootlegging career and how Lex, who ran away from her courtesan training house, is basically the reason he's so successful.
I absolutely loved the lesson she taught him on how valuable the women are that help him run his empire.
It's told as one big flashback with the first and last chapters as book ends in the present. These 2 tormented each other for years before finally giving in.

It was everything I could have wanted for Dallas/Lex prequel!!!!

I'm a fanatic with this series my love doesn't dwindle it only grows and we see more and more of these characters. It's been awhile since we got to dive deep in Dallas and Lex relationship and to see them before everything happened was so rewarding.

I can not say enough about the depth of these characters and how much we see from the past of so many of our beloved Sector 4 members. I love getting lost in this vibrant, desolate world after the flares and before the rebellion. I also love the peeks at what life is looking like from the inside after.

If you love these characters from the Beyond series this is a MUST buy,
I received a copy for an honest review.

MY KING AND QUEEN. This novella is everything. We only ever just heard about Dallas and Lex's first meeting, about Dallas walking in on Lex with her arm in his safe. And now we get the story.

No spoilers, but if you guys read Beyond Surrender (and you should, because this novella starts out after that and flashbacks into a time before the first book), then you'll know that one character that hit you straight in the feels and you can't look at the ocean the same way ever again? YEAH. Said character is in this story and the first time the character is mentioned, and every time after that, I teared up. Because feels. And everything hurts.

So...back to O'Kane royalty. This story starts out with opening night and the unveiling of the new and improved Broken Circle. Still a place of debauchery in proper O'Kane form, Dallas starts to reminisce about a certain safe, dug out from what was left of the original Broken Circle.

The story jumps back to six years ago, and with each chapter, a different period in time where Dallas and Lex's life intertwined. This story really does show just how much Lex helped shape the O'Kanes. Dallas was very set in his ways and what work men and women should be doing to help build the O'Kanes. Well, Lex sure set him straight.
"You give your men a whole hell of a lot more than you get. But you don't even fucking see what women do around here. If we all get the fuck out, you won't last a single goddamn week."

This story is hot, and the sexual tension is as explosive as what we've read in Beyond Control, if not more. We see the early days of Sector Four and how Dallas rose to power. The ending goes full circle back to their present-day, with Dallas and Lex living their glorious HEA life, and it is fiery. *fans self*

For fans of the O'Kanes, this is a novella you don't want to miss!

I loved reading about the backstory of Dallas & Lex! I loved reading how The Broken Circle became The Broken Circle & how Dallas became King! I also loved Nessa & how Lex helped her come into her own personality. This was such an awesome prequel to the Beyond series!

Oh Dallas and Lex, how I love thee. I love thee even more now that I have read your origin story. I miss you Sector Four. Sector One doesn't have the same oomph. I read this book in one sitting and immediately came to the computer to get my thoughts in order. In this novella, we get a front row seat to watch Lex, Dallas, Nessa and the rest of Sector Four get their start. Nessa as a 16 year old kid trying to figure out her place in it all. Lex becoming the queen we all know she is. This novella was everything and yet it will never be enough! I know all good things come to an end but for me this was like coming home and if I didn't have a million other books that need to be read, I'd be calling for an entire series re-read about now. Well done Bree and Donna.
