Characters are great. First book where things get spicy. Sometimes the plot twists seem too convenient, but I enjoy all the situational comedy between scenes. The author really knows how to make her characters distinct and entertaining, but most of all I love the timeline of hua Cheng and xie lian's time together (and how it is referenced in subtle ways throughout the series). The one problem I had with the book is how the author briefly writes about the potential for a specific child to come into harm's way, and then jumps into another scene without assuring the reader that the child will be safe (at least within this book). I found it mildly distressing.
