. . . . “Even as gods, we cannot be spared in the end.”
truly...such a tragic tale that was uncovered here. in all my excitement of learning more about one of the Four Calamities, Ship-Sinking Black Water, i stumbled upon a twisted and resentful twist that was tied to shi qingxuan and shi wudu, and i was not expecting any of it. this plot twist was certainly one of my most favorites that i've ever read in fiction and it was absolutely epic the way the author weaved these characters together and continued to completely reshape what i knew of the details from previous volumes.
it's amazing how large a cast of characters there are and the way the author connects them all in a way that is absolute genius; they all stand out so well and they have a vicious stake in the story that leaves me eager to see more of them. this doesn't just include xie lian and hua cheng but again, shi qingxuan & shi wudu, feng xin & mu qing, quan yizhen (who was....such a huge surprise after his first meeting in volume three), lang ying, and also.....he xuan :') plus plenty more!! but these are the standouts for me.
while the reveal near the end of another scheme that was hanging over the gods' heads did throw me off into a spin of confusion for a bit (you really can't trust anyone), all the earlier events of this volume really just completely wiped me out and made me feel very emotional. the writing was incredible as always and now looking forward, i'm very anxious of what more is to come eventually, but still excited.
shi qingxuan and shi wudu, though....damn.
