I really don’t like when authors try to fuck with you an entire book, are predictable, and then

This book is fast paced, and unlike the other Hoover book I read, the characters are far more compelling and complex. I did actually care and couldn’t put it down.
But the ending was awful! Also!! To be so sex positive (even though the sex scenes were awful) and then throw that away and say that women aren’t that sexual?! WTH?!
I really enjoyed this until the ending, when it felt like she was wagging her fingers at me and going “Oooooooooooo.”

Alright, I just read the *bonus* epilogue online.

I am annoyed that she still didn't really give an answer? And I don't like that when I tell people I finished it the first question I get is - Do you think Verity is crazy or not? Um. Did we read the same book? It doesn't matter. She didn't give us enough detail either way to tell you whether Verity is crazy or not. This book isn't well written enough or gives enough detail to answer that question or to make me care. Gun to my head? I would say she isn't, and I would've said that before, and now especially after watching these gross ass men in the second epilogue.

The point of the book is to have a plot twist, and that infuriates me a bit.

BEFORE ANYONE SAYS ANYTHING!!!! I read this book because coho is my best friend’s favorite author rn and I’ve always been anti coho but I told her I’d read one of her books to form an opinion on her writing by myself. Hopefully the rating and this review proves that I am still anti.

Obviously I’m biased coming into reading, but I tried to remain objective. I’ll start with compliments! Colleen Hoover definitely writes in a way that makes her book very digestible . Not necessarily talking about subject matter, but just the language she uses is easy to read making her books very quick reads. She also definitely knows how to add tension and thrill! Her twist at the end does make you question things which is kind of fun! That’s about all I have as far as compliments go lmao

Now my complaints…. I won’t be TOO heavy handed here but Jesus. This book was published in 2018 but I felt like I was reading something from 2013 wattpad most of the time. I hated literally every single character. The characterization was shallow and the relationships were shallow. The timeline didn’t make sense. Colleen told us so many things instead of opting to show us. Many details were brought up that could’ve added to the story but ultimately very much did not. Spoiler but

so yeah sorry to my best friend but this was not a good book. It was an engaging book. It was not good. I remain a coho hater.

The only relatable thing about this book was, when she wanted the attention of the husband to herself and hated children. Also, there are a LOT of tw!!!
