Predictability, you say?

Unless I'm a genius, then this book was up to it's eyeballs in it. I think we can safely establish that I'm not a genius. Was I played like a fool? Yes. When it came to giving into the hype for this book.

A common mistake I seem to repeatedly encounter, is giving the benefit of the doubt. You know the term 'disappointed, but not surprised'? I admit I'm always a little surprised. Notably when it comes to Hoover's works. Some. Not all, I should mention. Some are just plain disastrous and there's no amount of divine intervention that could save those.

Verity. Verity. Verity.

It's a romance. Let's get that straight. A truly messed up one, yes, but a romance nonetheless. If you hate the miscommunication trope - ABORT MISSION. Don't give yourself to the soul sucking drainage you experience from reading this story.

If Lowen made you wish to gauge out your own eyes, please say aye. Irritable is not the term I'd use, but the author tried to gaslight us into believing she's a victim. She'll know when she's doing something wrong, or what would be most shameful... but she'll do it later anyway and act all Hail Mary. She was a ghost of a reminder of Layken from Slammed. Which made me want to slam my head against the door.

There was potential. As I kept reading I told myself this could be redeemed. End it right, prove me wrong. Tell me I'm over thinking things. For a brief moment, I appreciated the twist we get slapped with. We have bits of creepy thrills. This could get better.

Reader, don't do it. Don't give yourself false hope. That's all I can say.

Final words?

Stupid. Absolutely doggone ridiculous.

TEAM MANUSCRIPT!!!!!!!!!!
Spoiler
For the Team Letter people out there, how could you think Verity didn’t do kill her daughter? Like she admitted to attempting to kill her daughter in the womb!! And she only wrote the letter when Lowen read the manuscript.

I don’t personally like Jeremy and Lowen together. I guess Jeremy likes crazy girls. Lol. Jeremy doesn’t seem fully trustworthy either tho … he did immediately try to kill Verity when he read the manuscript.

Colleen Hoover could somehow convince me that Verity killed her daughter and Jeremy tried to kill her. Therefore meaning parts of letter and manuscript are real. For Lowen’s sake, I hope not.

meh didn't really like the book and it was very predictable. I feel like a lot of the appeal comes from the scandal of it all but it's just poorly written and I’m not super interested in this sensationalism. feels like it's just a bunch of sad and dark stuff thrown in together for a sad and dark soup

Best Colleen Hoover book I’ve read this far and completely different from what she’s used to writing.
