This volume made me want to read more! It basically introduces us to the Fantastic Four and how they became the "Fantastic Four."

Reading Volume 2 now!

This one tells the origin of the Fantastic Four and how they became who live came this was right at the Beginning though no so we see reed as a little boy and he always getting in trouble with his dad for his experiments he then does a science there were he gets giving a full or scholarship or ride to this science place where they do experiments to see if they can get through to the other world like a parallel line used universe so he does this experiment at a bigger scale than what he was used to so they could sort a walk through but it backfires and Johnny Ben Sue I'll get changed as long with reed Johnny obviously became torch Ben became the thing Sue became the invisible girl and I forget what the other guy became I just know he's a stretchy person it was really good but I didn't really know their Origins so if you want I just know their origins this is a really good book to start with you don't have to continue with the service after this if you don't want to

I really enjoyed this first volume! I think it did a good justice to the original FF story while having a very interesting turn to it. Also my first time reading with Adam Kuberts art and I think it fit the story very well. I loved his splash pages showing a big scene and even the paneling was done very nicely. Loved the flow of this volume. It paced it self very well making me want more. I’m reading this digitally so I’m Jumping straight into Vol 2.

As Marvel heroes go, the Fantastic Four never held my interest much. I did, however, like this book - it's a fun story to read, and the art is good, to boot. The layout varies in quality - sometimes it's interesting and enhances the story, but it can sometimes be confusing and a distraction. Overall, though, a fine book.

I don't know why, but I never really got into the Fantastic Four. There's a lot of potential. Something about the characters never hits home for me. This book collects the first two volumes of the Ultimate series. The first volume is okay. It introduces the characters and sets them in the world. Volume two is really good because it focuses on the conflict with Dr. Doom and explores some of the ideas that I tend to associate with these characters.

The FF are younger in this series and are involved in a government program to train the brightest minds in the country. An accident gives the heroes their powers, which is nothing new. Despite some reframing of character origins/ideas the initial story is, or seems to be, mostly a throwback to older FF comics. As someone who hasn't read much of those, it didn't work very well for me. The art is cartoony and bright for the most part. It's not bad, but it's not my preferred style.

The second half of this picks up quite a bit. I could have done without the backstory that is used for Doom. Maybe it seemed cool or edgy, but it just ends up pigeonholing the character. It's like he couldn't even have a chance. Anyway, the effect that the accident in volume one has on Doom is interesting. I feel like the story plays to his strengths in a lot of ways and gives a realistic approach to his situation. The art felt like more of the same from volume one. As much as I enjoyed the second half of the book, I don't anticipate reading more from this series.

i understand that this isn't the whole of the Ultimate Fantastic Four series; however, would the movie adaptation be better if they just stick to the letter of this series?

This was a pretty fun read!

It redoes the origin of the F4 and rather than the cosmic rays its the negative zone and we focus on that and everything and its fun. How Reed meets Doom and Ben here is different and the childhood angle was fun and working for the army and all, and how the accident happens and how the members deal with it is explored here and finally them facing off against Mole man and his Ani-men and its fun, getting the hang of their powers and discovering enemies all around and personal struggles for Ben also.

So yeah familiar storylines but its well done and make for a great read and the dialogues can become heavy like there is so much sometimes and considering its Bendis it makes sense but regardless great face off between the two though I had hoped they would have shown more fighting. The art was okay I guess and it sets up the next conflict between Doom and this team well.

This is the first Fantastic Four comic book I have ever read, so I don't have much that I personally compare it to. While this first volume was a quick and fairly enjoyable read, the climax left me underwhelmed. Maybe I will get around to later volumes in the run some other time to see if I like the plotting better there.
