This is the second book by John Green that I've read, the first being Papertowns. I love his writing it's very real and I really loved this book. The characters were well developed and easy to connect with as if they were not just words written on paper. My only criticism is the ending, I wasn't the biggest fan. In both The Fault in Our Stars and Papertowns I found the endings lacking something, I don't know if this is a constant trait of Green's writing but it kinda ends this amazing book on a bit of a sour note for me. Overall however it's a brilliant must-read that is very hard to put down.

Do not read the end of this book on a bus full of people. The crying gets a bit embarrassing.

The older I get, the more emotional I become. These days I cry watching Gravity because poor Sandy, all alone in space! Or I see a disheveled but sweet-looking old drunk with a sad mangy dog on the bus and get all sniffly. The pesky cancer kids in The Fault In Our Stars did not make me cry. They annoyed me with their symbolic smoking (as if being a teenager isn't awkward enough without people thinking you're a half-wit), pseudo-intellectual dialogue (Dawson's Creek all over again!) and blatant narcissism (Hazel has a temper tantrum when her favorite author doesn't live up to her expectations, then makes out in the Anne Frank house because she's sure Anne would have approved). Good grief!

This was way too sentimental and manipulative for me. Could be I'm not used to modern YA fiction. When I was a tween/teen myself in the early 90's, our local library's YA shelf was filled with educational feel-bad-fiction. It was all about alcoholic parents committing suicide, homeless kids turning tricks and political prisoners in El Salvador suffering electric torture of the balls. Boy did I feel bad. Two wealthy, good-looking, self-assured sick kids with terrific, sober parents don't stand a chance.

I devoured this novel in about 5 total hours, in the span of one day. This work of literary genius ripped me open and poured all of my emotions out. Poignant, riveting, emotional, gripping, heartfelt, and so much more. This book is raw, and real. It will stay with you forever after you read it. There are only two other books that have ever illicited this type of response from me. Hats off to Mr Green for a wonderful, existential, and heart rending novel of epic purportions.

To be fair, I saw the movie first and I cried during the movie. While reading this book, it was good but it didn’t give me the feelings that the movie gave me. I didn’t cry when Gus died because I feel like it wasn’t that descriptive or something? I’m not quite sure. But I’d give it about 3.5 stars. Another thing I disliked was the writing style at times. There were super long run on sentences that were just confusing and annoying to read(in my opinion).

fue una fiebre en 2016 y nunca entendí por qué, no sé si es que lo leí muy chica o qué, pero la verdad, aunque los personajes son hilarantes y caen bien, es bastante predecible, no lloré xd
