On a freezing cold night in rural Iowa, someone shoved a tiny kitten into the public library's outdoor book drop. The librarians found the kitten the next morning, huddled in the corner and clinging to life. He was dirty and bedraggled, but immediately offered hugs and purrs to the librarians, his rescuers. He was named Dewey Readmore Books and he became the library's cat - cared for by the head librarian (the author), but winning the hearts of every member of the community. This memoir is mainly about Dewey, his funny personality, how he befriended every patron of the library, and how he even became world famous. But the author also invites you into her life and her community, facing hardships with courage and endlessly striving to make this small town a better place. I looked forward to reading this every day and gosh darn it if it didn't make me sob at the end!

Really enjoyed reading this book and founding about Dewy and how he became a library cat. The chapters about Dewy I really enjoyed reading and founding out more about him. The chapters that didn’t have Dewy in them I found them boring and didn’t think they really fitted the book or were needed in the book they took away space from Dewey’s story. The people who loved Dewy were such a amazing and inspirational people and they looked after him so well for 19 years. I loved all the weird and funny things Dewy would get up to in this book and some points of the book made me smile and laugh. The last two chapters broke my heart when the sadly lost Dewy I was in tears reading the ending. Such a great story overall. Xxx
