Ick. Not at all to my taste, though interesting and, for what it is, well-crafted.

So it's a rock. No indigenous life. But there are the squatters in this small mining site floating out in space, and an academic come to explore the little-known population. Reminds me a little of aspects of Raft, or The Quantum Magician. Vivid imagery as the tourist descends into the rock; it's all exploration and revelation!

*I know the author*

A short, dark, and violent journey through an underground futuristic society, questioning the paths that led these people to their current darkness and the nature of the lives within. Uncertain and compelling, the exploration of Tourist and guide through this strange place is as twisting as the caverns themselves.

I picked up The Tourist in my desperate attempt to find something I was interested in reading and it was creepy and honestly exactly what I needed at the time. This was only about 16 pages and the entire story had essentially no answers. The writing was good, but it left me wanting more. Overall it was only a 3 star read, but enough to intrigue me to pick up a full-length book from the author.

More than slightly weird and disgusting. Not a fan. A little too abruptly gross and chaotic.

Tor's short fiction rarely strikes out for me, but this one did. I thought the premise was very interesting, and the writing was objectively very good; but I didn't feel like I understood what was happening most of the time, and I found the story overall somewhat gratuitously violent. Overall, very much not my cup of tea.
