The concept is interesting and enlightening. The author absolutely has a lot of talent and potential. With more practice and refining, they can go far. 
I do feel the metaphors dragged on too long. As lovely as they were, it took away from some of the emotional moments. I also found that some of the dialogue was repeated so often that the sayings lost their impact. (Ex: "You're okay. I've got you," was said whenever someone had a an emotional moment)
I also would have appreciated a break in between character deaths. 3 in a row was quite a lot.
 That all being said, i did enjoy the novel and hope to see the growth I believe Lancali is capable of!

this book is written for teenagers on tumblr in 2014 and i can say this because i was one. the plot is an afterthought to the pretty prose written by the author. truly every line is trying to be "quotable." by the time i realized i didn't care to finish this story i was already so close to the end i thought i might as well get there but i wouldn't recommend this to any adult. there are also some points that i feel were handled irresponsibly when discussing mental illness.

I loved this book, I found it very inspiring. I love every character and appreciate Lancali for writing this book in a way that you could really connect with it on a deeper level. I was a bit confused at the end, but after looking at some videos made by the author, it made a bit more sense. This book, I feel, is meant to leave you with a message. It’s not a standard beginning to end kind of book. 
It was unique and different from what I’m used to. I loved it.

I Fell in Love with Hope is a story like no other, a telling of pain and joy, with poetry in every line, and emotion living in the pages. This book tore my heart into pieces, but put it back together again with Sony's dirty white shoes, Neo's sea of ink, Coeur's tangled earbuds, the sun in Hikari's eyes, and Sam's love for them all. I have never cried so much over a book, over people I now wish I could have known myself, over a beautiful story, I feel, everyone needs to read. I know I have taken a piece of each of them after finishing this story, and if you are on the fence about reading it yourself, consider this your sign, because this book is the most devastatingly beautiful thing I have read all year, and everyone should find a piece of themselves in it. 

For a while, the start of the book felt slow, but the more I read the more I understood why it was this way. It is the perfect amount of time to fall in love with these people before they died. Coeur's death hurt the most, as I knew the gentle giant would no longer be able to smile with his other half. He would not finish telling his story with his composer, and as a writer myself, it struck me deeply. Sony and Neo were both equally as devastating to let go of. Sony for her relentless positive bubbly attitude that I grew to love, and Neo's snarky remarks that were full of love, but knowing them and having their memories is something I'll cherish forever. Sometimes the flow of the writing would get lost on me, and descriptions became overbearing at points, but it never ruined the feel of the story for me. This is definitely one of my all-time favourites, and will stay that way for a long time
