A BEAUTIFUL picture book. The main character in the story revels in the night time ritual of hair care in her family, but her night time bonnet is gone! A celebration of family, bedtime, and hair. I loved this book.

Picture book.  I have often heard that some Black people will use a special pillowcase or cap for their hair at night, but never heard why.  In this book, as the whole family preps their hair for bed, the youngest daughter simply explains "I need [my bonnet] to protect my hair from tangles and lint while I sleep."  But her search for the elusive bonnet is not the only thing going on here-- her mother has a scarf, her sister has a wrap, her brother has a durag, her father has a wave cap, her grandmother has curlers and a kerchief, and Grandpa is bald. The pride the family takes in their hair is beautiful, the love between the family members is easy to see, and the dog adds some lighthearted humor (with its own eye mask for bed!).

Though there has been a number of books on Black hair recently, most have focused on styling it, or accepting it, rather than the caring for it.  This book is a welcome addition.Â
