My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I have either a love-hate relationship with DiAnn Mills. I have read several books by her and they always swing to the extremes.

This one was not my favorite novel by Mills. I thought that it was intriguing. However, the novel was slow in the beginning for me. I thought that it would have been nice if she had got to the action quicker.

I also thought that the ending was a bit rushed.

However, Mills is an excellent writer. Her suspense was masterfully built. It kept me guessing for a long time. Mills is excellent at creating engaging characters as well.

For fans of romance suspense who don't mind a novel that's a little slower, this one is great. The book is definitely an intense, gripping read.

So why 3 stars? For the reasons listed above, I thought the beginning was slow and the ending was rushed. However, it was an enjoyable read.

Can I read the series out of order? Yes, this one can be read as a stand-alone.

Warnings/Side-notes: Mild violence.

The Wrap-up: An intense, gripping read, albeit a little slow in the beginning. Not DiAnn Mills's best novel, but definitely an interesting read.

Love,

Another pretty good book, mostly hard to put down. I got this one as a new release from my library's digital download site, was glad to find it. I had read the other in this series, but really, these are pretty much stand-alone. This one is about a female FBI agent in Houston and a Houston Police Department cop investigating an elderly scam, one which affected the HPD cop's wealthy grandparents.

I thought this book was pretty good. I don't usually read Christian fiction, but when I do, this is the kind I like. The Christian references are subtle and about how God plays a part in the characters' lives. It's not preachy or judgmental.

It took a while for me to really immerse myself into the writing, but once there I finished the book in record time. I enjoy DiAnn Mills' writing style. Her way with words and the ability to string the action and plot together into a tapestry of reading is wonderful.

What I didn't like was that the book didn't hold my attention long enough. The action seemed too bland at times. There were no muscles to the storyline. I expected more in depth description to the action and crime scenes. And maybe a little deeper emotional turmoil for Agent Laurel Evertson's spiritual revelation?

I did enjoy the fast paced storyline. I did enjoy how the Christian faith was interwoven throughout the story.

DiAnn Mills wrote a worthy romantic suspense that will thrill those who enjoy the books. If you don't like more hardcore or gritty suspense novels, then DiAnn Mills is definitely for you.
