It was fascinating to read all of Nella Larson's work and be part of her world this year
Short Stories x3 = 2.5-3.75
Quicksand = 4.5
Passing = 3.5
Quicksand
I loved so much, it was emotional watching this characters journey and her difficult struggle with identity and to find a place she belonged in. It was harrowing to consider her options at the time abd how she was unable to ve fully her as she wished.
The writing is so vivid and pulks you into Helga's story.
Passing
I loved the opening of the book where themes of race were dealt with. Larson's writing is so crisp and clear, I really love her writing style.
Sadly the content went in a direction that was not something I enjoy reading about. Marital relations and a characters Inner turmoil is not what I enjoy, so I then did not enjoy the rest of the story.
It is well written and what she wanted to write, but sadly not for me
Overall
I did enjoy the collection and wish I could read the stories that were rejected, as I love her writing, but sadly only the plot of one of her stories.
