Rep: mid-size sapphic MC, Korean-American MC, MC with lupus, sapphic character, plus-size Chinese-American character, Korean side characters

Spoiler I'm just gonna say it: Zoe and Morgan should have broken up, Madison and Jake shouldn't have broken up, Alex and Leah were interesting only in the beginning and at the end, the middle lacked significantly. Julia and Kevin were... just there, existing. For all the talk of Zoe being super logical and shit, she was the most irrational character in the whole book, quickly followed by Morgan. We also deserved more of Alex and Kevin's bromance. Jake was surprisingly endearing character. And Alex's grandma is absolutely the best character in this whole book.

The Night No One Had Sex is a YA novel centered around the hours after prom to the next morning. A group of friends have made a pact to lose their virginity on prom night - the problem is various events thwart this goal.

I was most invested in Alex and Leah’s story and looked forward to reading his pov.

A few of the female characters blended together a bit for me.

There are some pretty funny scenes but also characters that dealt with big issues - what college to go to, whether to stay in a relationship, a sick grandparent, etc.

I could see the twins dealing with one having lupus and how that affects their relationship with each other and their partners being representative of many teens living with an illness.

I do wonder if some parents may be leery of the title. There is obviously sex discussions that is treated positively and the teens do discuss protection but there are no overly graphic scenes and spoiler, most of the teens don’t even have sex. I would recommend this for high school students.

This was gifted to me from the author in exchange for a review.

Kalena Miller's The Night When No One Had Sex was really good. The different points of view were enjoyable to read. It added to the sense of friendship between them. It had a great voice and a very intriguing narrative.

Told in alternating voices and group texts a prom night sex pact goes awry for seven friends as someone gets stuck in a closet, a cat goes missing, and people revaluate both relationships and college plans.

Though slightly predictable this book was good. It was funny and felt truthful for the way things play out. All the seven characters had distinct voices and the group texts were easy to follow. A good recommendation for someone looking for a sex-positive and light hearted read.
