I didn't realize it was a novella until it ended abruptly. The plot was a little slow to start, but then ramps up really quickly. The coming of age story happens a little too quickly for my liking, The story development and the world created have great potential. Great style as always by Orson Scott Card and an overall fun read.

Simple quick read in the Lost Gate universe. Too bad that this universe is not just a collection of short stories. 4 of 5.

Good novella in the Mither Mages world. A nice introduction to the world if you are considering reading the full series.

I found this MitherMages novella much more interesting than The Lost Gate. I think I just liked the principle character more. He was less Card-ish.

3.5 I liked this one a lot, but then it got weird. If the book had been longer then it might not have been an issue and the ending would have felt better. Oh well.

Emily Janice Card does a nice job narrating.
