This was such an intense story. I cannot believe the inaction of the government when faced with the affidavit. I could only imagine the authors guilt at the fate of her mother, it's so awful what happened. Also the audiobook narrator was fantastic, it was so immersive

Heartbreaking doesn't even begin to describe this story. I know it will stay with me for a long time.

Great book. A terrifying tale of the people's temple and their story. Just amazing how cults get followers. The mind games and manipulation are just incredible.

A really clear and compelling account of how Jim Jones was able to suck people into the People's Temple and convince so many to forsake their friends and family and committed suicide in the Jonestown Massacre. This is the best account I've heard that makes me understand how Jones was able to wield his power over people and provides the most sympathetic view of People's Temple members that I've ever read. Provides a really important level of understanding that I don't think I would have gotten without this book.

God, what an emotional book. It’s devastatingly sad and scary and suspenseful. What the hell was wrong with the people at the American embassy?! This book was so much to read. I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it and cried so much. She’s a really great writer. That must’ve been so horrible to live through.
