Bravo to the narrator, who did all the voices convincingly—well, maybe not Chewbacca, but it still worked.

Huge SW fan here, and being a fan means having your heart broken at regular intervals.

This is about as good a book of a completely unwieldy narrative as one will find. So many MacGuffins, so little time!

My take on the whole third trilogy—this is what happens when nostalgia and the internet create your product. :(

Carson neatly fills out the exposition this movie's jumbled plot needed so much. The novelization not only satisfyingly explains these muddled plot points, but also adds much welcome characterization.

Once again I feel the disappointment and anger I felt as I left the movie theatre… it was hard for me to rate this book since the author did the best she could with the crappy storyline she was given…

i mean, the novelization is not magic. it won't change anything you didn't fundamentally like at first in the film, but it will explain it. everything else lies on whether that explanation is good enough for you. but, if you're anything like me, and you thought the pacing and lack of answers in the film were too much to ignore and took you out of it, then you might be able to enjoy the book; and, perhaps, you might take the first steps to appreciate the rise of skywalker for what it is and not hate it for what it wasn’t.

scenes overall a great book confusing at some parts but I really liked it

Given how much of a train wreck the movie - and the entire trilogy - has been, this novelisation was needed. It adds to the lore, yes, but it explains 90% of the movie that should have been explained in the movie.

I really liked the extra bits and pieces I found here: obviously, an inside view of Rey; so many friendships that were neglected on-screen lord knows why; the novel managed to tie up some ends, albeit very loosely.

It was an enjoyable novel, and Rae Carson really said REYLO RIGHTS. Still not a big fan of the "gratitute" part. If you've read it you know what I mean.
