Just when I was worried that this fantasy series might descend into mediocrity, it presents the final novel of the quartet in fine form. Dawn Cook (aka Kim Harrison) concludes the series with, perhaps the best book in the batch, tying together a bunch of plot strings into one cohesive whole.
At the fore-front of the issues needing to be resolved was the love triangle, of course and I, along with most readers I assume, was happy to see the result. And thankfully, this occurred fairly early in this novel, allowing the greater events surrounding Alissa’s true self and her role in the world to finally emerge. There is also a complex but satisfying resolution to the fate of the masters, the Hold, etc. After reading this concluding volume, it is now evident just how well-planned all four books were and I appreciate the set much more now than I had at the end of book 3.
This won’t go down as my favorite epic fantasy series but overall, was very much worth reading.

Heartbreaking, infuriating, intense action, tear jerking, heart warming, The end of the series. I loved it and hated it. How could Alise be so damn stupid sometimes ? She really disappointed me in this book with her dumb pride and selfishness. Talk about stirring my emotions, I wanted to reach through the ook and slap her. She changed so much,good and bad. Strell was the same stable strong backed man he has been through the series. Lodesh, sniff sniff, how he suffers for what 400 years ? Well I can't say more, it was not the ending I wanted, but I really enjoyed the series. I cried at the ending.

It's a good ending to the series, but I wish Keribdis hadn't been such an over-the-top villain. She was so extreme that, to me, all the Masters (except Useless) are unforgivable for going along with her for so long. Honestly, at the 80% mark, I just wanted Alissa to tell them they are monsters that deserve to go extinct, and walk away.
They are worthless, lazy cowards.
It's the only thing that kept this from being perfect, imo.

I loved this book, couldn’t put it down. It took me a while to get through the first 3 books, i had to keep taking a break to get away from the characters weird wired emotions. I kept putting off reading this one. Once i started, i had a hard time putting it down.

It helps to not listen to this series right after another and having a horrid audiobook before this one. I'm still not thrilled with the narrator but the books are getting better a smidge at a time.

Great conclusion to the series! Of the four in the series, the third was my favorite, but I'm giving the fourth the highest rating because it really ties everything together. There's a clear, well planned arc from first to last book. I'm glad I read the whole series. If I hadn't had it all at the start, I might not have, but the payoff was worth it. I wish there were more books!

I loved the first two books in this series, but the third disappointed me a bit. Book 4 ended the series on a good note :)
