This fic is very expansive, covering several major plot points that could stand alone. At times, I found that too much and other times I was grateful for being able to spend so much time with characters.

I must start by congratulating Rizzle on completing this fic over the course of 10 years! All my respect for their commitment and skills in writing something this detailed, interesting and complex. As a hobby! With no team editors and support behind their work and for this alone, my appreciation for FanFic will be superior to published books.

Rizzle also has a plan for the apocalypse, naturally, they’re qualified to write about it.

Unfiltered thoughts throughout my journey of this fic:

1. Cure Research & the Fleet arc:

“Once more, Granger. With feeling.”

The plot of this is so clever. So much happened in the first half! I adore this version of Draco.

“The next time you’re alone in a room with me, I’m going to kill you.”

dhjwdhkchkbcbhkhb Draco with a gun, rage, 0 fucks given about the world, and long hair had me screaming.

Gods. The cure research, the pit, the deaths.

I’m definitely checking out of the apocalypse. I have 0 survival skills or the will. Even the brightest witch of her age, the golden girl herself, the heroin broke under these conditions. I just know, Draco is about to break.

Chapter 40 and I was still hooked!

2. Malfoy Manor & Post Cure arcs:

Once we reached the cure point, I would say, I could’ve ended the book and stopped at any point I like as the main plot was over.

It got dull for a bit here, after the chaos of the first half of the book. Until Father showed up.

Idk if the events of the manor were justified. I did not like Hermione in this arc. However, Don’t get attached. EVERYBODY FUCKING DIES.

Not a fan of the smut. In general. I disassociated most of the time.

I wasn’t a fan of “the miracle of the cure”.

When were back to the manor, I disassociated again. Partially because after the chaos of the first half, the second half pace threw me off and partially because I’ve cried for 3 hours listening to foolish one (FTVTV) because well, I’m disappointed in misplaced trust again.

I will end this by saying, that while this fics have flaws, I still read the whole thing, and this version of Draco is the same as a comfort character I grew up with and I thank Rizzle for giving me this version.

Ok, so I had to take two days to digest what I just read. I will try and give my review in multiple parts to express all my feelings.

LIATOTZA was written over a span of 10 years and it shows. The book you begin with is very different to the end. The first (bigger) chunk is an action, dystopian story with a side of romance. There is fighting, a lot of gore, tension and it is extremly plot driven. The second chunk is an action-romance. Still a lot of plot but the romance is just as important with a lot of character work. The last part of LIATOTZA is an angsty romance. Romance is at the forefront with a bit of plot. There is A LOT of smut, healing and feelings. So after finishing this story you have gone through almost all genres leaving you slightly baffled when you realise this. I think this is also why there are multiple instances where in traditional publishing the book would have ended and the story would have been picked up in the next. LITOTZA could probably be a three or four book series.

The POV is done in a very unusual way. Multiple POVs aren't uncommon but in LIATOTZA the multiple POVs are implemented in a very fluent way. There can be multiple switches within a chapter without there being any visual marking that this is happening. One sentence you are witnessing something from one person's POV and the next from someone completely different. And sometimes a POV is only kept up for a paragraph or two. These switches aren't contained to main characters but might also happen to side characters a single time with this character never being revisited. This makes for a very interesting reading experience and I think it added so much to the story. This also leads me into my next point.

The cast of characters is very well fleshed out. rizzlewrites created a cast of original characters who quickly feel canon or not inferior to canon characters. Every character has wants, needs and something hindering them. This makes the world and the cast in LIATOTZA feel so real. This depth in characters is most obvious in one of our main characters:

The Draco in LIATOTZA is one of the best-fleshed out and canon Dracos I have ever read. If you are looking for a Draco who actually is a good guy and just couldn't show it won't find him in LIATOTZA. The Draco here never justifies being a Deatheater with more than wanting to reap the benefits. He never apologises or seems remorseful. He is motivated by personal gain and is ruthless to this end. This doesn't mean he was Voldemort's right hand or one of the most dangerous Deatheaters. Instead he exercises power on a small level to his maximum benefit. Until the end he doesn't really redeem himself.

The relationship between Hermione and Draco is absolutely toxic and not necessarily in a hot way. Dramione is at its core a toxic pairing, if you want Draco to by just a bit canon but LIATOTZA takes it to a new level. These two are not compatible and we see the struggle it takes for the two to make it work. Tbh, they should have thrown the towel. I don't want to say I didn't enjoy reading about their relationship but it isn't one that I would wish for myself or anyone. It is painful, depressing and heartbreaking to read at times.

At times rizzlewrites undersells magic. It being a zombie apocalypse injuries happen. Bones break, people get shot and other things. While in the series such things would be delt with within hours or a couple of days max, the characters in LIATOTZA are bedbound for weeks, even though the they have medi-witches and wizards at their disposal. While I don't think that magic doesn't have any limitations, it was made extremely weak here.

LIATOTZA is one of the most unique Harry Potter fics I have ever read. It is wonderfully action-packed, the characterisations are spot on, there are great new characters and there is real conflict again and again that neads to be delt with. There are wild plot twists, very emotional scenes (rizzlewrites likes killing of loveable characters) and calm scenes to allow characters to grow. It is  bit disjointed at times and the genre changes are a bit jarring but it is a top tier fic.
