De Joe Ledger reeks wordt steeds intrigerender/extremer. Na Zombieachtigen krijgen we nu vampierachtigen, en ik ben nog steeds zeer geneigd tot willing suspension of disbelief.

Poor Joe. This guy really has it rough. It seems like death and weird things just follow him around. I just want to say I hope that he finds someone who can keep him grounded like Grace. I think if he doesn't he's going to burn out and his humanity will suffer even more. If that makes sense.

You can read a complete and a more detailed review at my blog.

Dear Mr Maberry.

You broke me! You broke me to the moon and back and then you put me together with scotch tape and hot glue. Blood seeping trough the wounds, glistening in the night as I lay and think about Joe Ledger and his life. And then I read the last sentence in this book and it is all better again. Almost! So please, do not fuck it up. (Yeah I know you already have written like 6 more books after this one but I can still Wish because that guy need some happiness.)

If I ever was one of those people who wrote letters to musicians, actors, authors, serial killers or what not, this is probably how I would start a letter to Jonathan Maberry. Because this book left me raw and excited and wanting more.

Everything you love about the Joe Ledger books is here: monsters with a scientific explanation, incredible action, Joe being a smart-ass, Joe dealing with aftermath of violence more realistically than most heroes, and grand world-encompassing conspiracies. It's a great book. The brutality of the fight scenes is amazing. As Joe gets fights for his life, you feel it almost physically yourself.

Even Ghost (the dog) seemed well fleshed out as a character.

The last hundred pages just flew by and the ending was very satisfying (which is all I'll say). A great addition to the series.

This was probably my favorite entry in the series so far. Books 1 and 2 (and 3 to an extent) leaned very hard into the "mad scientist" trope and all the villains so far have had a familiar element to them. Book 4 broadens the depth of Ledger's world a bit and steers a tiny bit out of the megalomaniac villain territory (but only just). I also think this book dipped a bit further into the weird than previous entries and I'm hoping we see more of that going forward.

Possibly the best Joe Ledger book in the series so far.

The beginning was a bit slow, not too much happened but Joe's sassy attitude was back from the last one which made the slowness ok. About 160 pages in when things started to really happen I couldn't put this down. This is probably my favorite book in this series so far. The bond between Joe and Ghost, his kick ass fight scenes as well as one of the last scenes that showed Joe is human too. The last line of the epilogue YES! Fantastic. The only thing I can say and he most likely did this on purpose but I had this problem right through the end was that there were so many different teams that it was hard to know who is leading who, who is fighting for who, who is good and who is bad. I gathered most but still confused with a few.
