Looking at this I can see how my mother identified with Anne, and how she saw a lot of her characteristics mirrored in me as I grew up. This connection with my mother gives the book an incomparable nostalgia value. Anne is renowned for being intense, outspoken, and grandiloquent. She is so impulsive and can't keep a lid on her quirks. When she feels things, her joy is boundless, her anger explosive and then simmering, and her sorrow is pitiful and all-encompassing.
Relatable.
I feel like I am looking at my own childhood (when someone asks how you are, they don't actually want a full description!) Anne is stubborn and unwavering in her convictions, which makes her heart slow to change, constant and loyal, but also slow to forgive a slight. She is blown away by the spectacle of life around her, and if it is all too humdrum she can imagine something better, for her flights of fancy know no bounds.
Kindred spirits..
The story is well crafted, and the dialogue is excellent and at times hilarious. hmm... yeah I'm going to give this an emotional 5.
