Such a heartwarming and beautiful book!
I had no idea this was a retelling of Les Miserables, and I am not sure if that’s a good thing, but I loved this book! It seemed so fitting for our political climate right now and is such a heartbreakingly beautiful tale of standing up for what’s right.

This was an adventurous story with realism and fantasy mixed together. I enjoyed the growth in the three main characters and would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good story!

I read this because it was for a class I was volunteering in and I liked the summary. But this is easily one of the best books I’ve read. I read this on my lunch break at work and many times I would audibly gasp or talk out loud. I can’t remember the last time I did that while reading a book. Completely recommend.

An excellent middle grade fantasy including a strong celebration of Asian culture. I also appreciated the theme of humanitarian protest that was so central to the plot.
