Apparently I'm on a streak because this one hurt, too. Trigger warnings for abuse, neglect, and sexual assault. I was not prepared. I had some frustrations at the beginning about the random, inconsistent references to people from their respective homes, but after finishing I recognize that what was left out wasn't necessarily part of the story the author was trying to tell, so I'm not sure if they make sense now. This is an important story for sure, and I think it will be impossible not to care about the main characters. I can't decide if this means too heavily into "all the problems are solved because the guy likes her", but it definitely isn't quite that cut and dry.

I loved this book! First time in a while I have fallen in love with the two main characters so quickly! This book was so much more than a friends to lovers, it had so much emotion and depth. I thought the author did well on showing how grief displays in different people and how trauma can also play into our relationships. While this is technically a YA book, the subject matter made it feel like it was an adult romance novel which I liked!

In this book we follow two teens, Jolene and Adam, and their budding relationship that grows as they make their way through their own personal traumas.

If you want to sob and feel the angst this book is exactly what you want.

Adam is dealing with his parents separating, and Jolene the emotional abuse both her separated parents put her through. As they meet the two teens slowly form a bond and become each other's safe spaces.

I found this book wonderfully written, with each and every emotion you can expect to feel delivered like a blow to the stomach each time something occurs. Both main characters truly make you feel their emotions along with them, and as the story unfolds.

Both Adam and Jolene are beautiful characters. Adam is the sweetest boy and Jolene a tough/mean girl with a heart that just needs a little healing. They are both so different and yet so realistic, it's fantastic.

I truly enjoyed, and cried throughout, this book.
