Read when I was like 7 so I don't remember much but I think it was good.

A true classic that tugs at the heartstrings. The story of a gentle horse who lives an extraordinary life. Black Beauty's happiness rises and falls at the whims of his owners, some are kind and others are cruel. This is one of the first books I remember reading independently in elementary school-- and I carry very fond memories of it to this day.

Warnings: Some of the content may be upsetting to younger readers. Black Beauty suffers through a lot of abuse during the book and there is a character death that is upsetting. However, I was a younger elementary school student the first time I read it and really enjoyed it.

Wasn't expecting to love it, but this is some surprisingly (to me anyway) radical anti-classist, anti-war/colonialist and of course pro animal rights stuff.

While the story is heartwarming and educational, I must say that I found the writing style a bit dry at times. The novel can feel a bit slow-paced, and the language used can be a bit outdated and difficult to follow. Additionally, some of the themes and issues addressed in the book may not be as relevant or impactful to modern readers.

However, despite these drawbacks, "Black Beauty" is still a worthwhile read for those interested in animal welfare and the history of animal rights.

Written from the perspective of a horse… if we imagine what horses actually think about. But we also got different owners of BB and the author tried to throw in short and random feeling emotional or plot driven moments of the humans. The problem with this was I didn’t know enough about those characters to care about them. They weren’t the main character. Why would I care about their problems when I barely heard much about them?
On top of that, BBs life was boring.. just so very boring.

Maybe I'd have liked this more if I was into horses, but it was not for me.
